Daily Habits for Healthier Skin
As more women learn about healthy skin habits, their preference for products made with simple, clean and naturally derived ingredients has never been more pronounced. The word is out: When you nourish your skin with the nutrients it needs, it shows. Practice these habits for healthy skin to reveal your inner and outer glow:
Use a gentle cleanser once a day
Cleaning your face at the end of your day is an absolute must. Throughout the day, our skin is exposed to any number of irritants including environmental pollutants, literal dirt from contact with our hands or our kids (and whatever they were touching), to makeup, germs, and more. If we don’t remove it, our pores will remind us one way or another. Daily cleansing with a gentle cleansing oil is the best way to remove impurities that cause our skin unnecessary grief. Using oil to clean your face not only oil dissolves and lifts away impurities from the skin, it also balances natural oil production for increased hydration and reduced irritation.
Overtime, our skin’s natural oil production starts to slow down, making moisturizers even more important. Using a Hydrating Tonic or Essential Serum after you wash your face, and throughout the day if needed, will keep your skin hydrated, strong and supple. There are other ways to help quench your skin’s thirst, too. Using humidifiers in the dry winter months, drinking lots of water, avoiding excessively hot water, and switching to naturally-derived soaps that are free of harsh, skin-drying chemicals can all play a role in retaining moisture.
Consider this your new mantra: Never go a day without SPF! The sun can wreak havoc on your skin, causing everything from sunburn, to premature signs of aging, to dark spots, to skin cancer. Choosing a well-rated, mineral-based SPF that protects against the UVA rays that cause sun damage and UVB rays that can lead to burning will allow you to enjoy the sun without worry. At Kari Gran, we believe so strongly in our mantra, we even named sunscreen Three Sixty Five!
Good skin care habits are more than the products we put on our face, which is why staying hydrated, kicking sugar habits and choosing foods that are rich in antioxidants, probiotics and other beneficial vitamins and minerals can dramatically improve the health and appearance of your skin. Remember to eat your leafy greens, fatty fish, avocados, nuts, and other vitamin-rich foods to help bring out the best in your skin.
If you really want to take care of your skin (and your body and mind), just sleep on it. While you’re catching Z’s, your body is working hard to regenerate skin cells, balance pH levels in your complexion and maintain healthy moisture levels. If you’re not getting in enough hours or lacking in quality of sleep, your skin is the first place you will notice the deficit.
