Our Planet Is Getting Thirsty

splash in water

Are you aware that our planet is facing a water crisis?

I confess this was only on the edge of my consciousness until it popped up in a  couple of recent articles I read.

Here’s what we’re faced with:

Increasing water demand from a growing world population, coupled with climate change, making regions dryer than ever, means that we’re beginning to feel the effects of water scarcity. Already, almost 2/3 of the world’s population is faced with water scarcity at least one month out of the year.

The majority of this is due to agricultural use, but a warning flag has recently been raised within the cosmetic industry.  Water is often used as filler; if it’s listed as the first ingredient on a label, you know the biggest ingredient is water.  Likely because it’s the cheapest.

In response to this problem, several global cosmetic manufacturers have pledged to reduce their use of water dramatically in the next year or two.

Kari Gran isn’t taking that pledge.  We don’t need to.  Since the very beginning, our products haven’t contained a drop of water — only the pure goodness of the natural oils and extracts we use.  I find essential oils feel better on my skin and also a very little goes a long way. No water = more pure product!

Our formulations are free of water for several reasons.  Any product with a lot of water that isn’t properly preserved is susceptible to mold or bacteria formation or could have a very short shelf life, which is why parabens were added.  And of course, we know by now that parabens are a big no-no.

As if our planet didn’t have enough problems —pollution, global warming, deforestation — now it’s dealing with water scarcity.  Time to help a planet out.

(Be aware of what you’re buying and no more throwing out half-full plastic bottles of water!)
