Thanksgiving is here, and with it comes with lots of gratitude and even more food than normal. And while we here at KG like to encourage healthful eating for best complexion results, Thanksgiving is one day we say throw caution to the wind. Do we want whip cream with that pumpkin pie? Oh yes, we do.
However, the day should not be a total food guilt trip, so we went off in search of the silver lining. We found that many of the ingredients and foods we eat on Thanksgiving have powerful skin-loving properties, so chew on that as you reach for seconds.
And yes, we know piling marshmallows on top of the yams will probably counteract the “good,” but we’re going to keep this list in mind anyway while we loosen up our belt.
This table staple is loaded with zinc, especially if you opt for dark meat, which contains twice as much as the white. While the body only requires trace amounts of zinc, it is essential for the production of protein, and thus collagen, our anti-aging BFF!
These little stalks are an excellent source of Vitamin C, an antioxidant that can help neutralize cell-damaging toxic free radicals. Go for thirds.
Just one sweet potato packs 200-percent the recommended daily value of Vitamin A, making it a true skin friend. Vitamin A promotes and increases the rate of new skin cell growth. Bonus: one sweet potato delivers three grams of fiber which is necessary for a healthy digestive tract – a well-functioning digestive track can minimize breakouts.
Treat yourself to a scoop of this classic sauce in confidence. Antioxidant-rich cranberries knock out harmful free radicals. They are the perfect amount of tart and if you make your own sauce, just skip the added sugar. You won't even miss it.
Walnuts and Pecans
Everybody loves a good nut bowl before the feast, and they’re sprinkled throughout just about every casserole and stuffing recipe we see. Nuts are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are not only good for the heart but also the cell membrane, which helps keep skin moist and wrinkle-resistant.
As if we need a good reason to eat pumpkin pie (we wait all year for this one)!
