My clients are always asking me “how do I achieve soft and supple looking skin.”  It’s as if they are looking for a magic elixir that will instantly change their skin overnight. Don’t I wish. At Kari Gran, we know beautiful skin is as much about what you put in your body (that would be food and beverages) as well as what you put on your body. We also know that  it takes time to to see results once you change your behavior. We recently stumbled upon this article from the website New Beauty that goes a little deeper into the topic of food and skin. Read on.

It’s natural for skin to be less capable of retaining moisture as it ages. But there’s something to be said about well-moisturized skin: it looks dewy, soft and fine lines and wrinkles seem less obvious.

"Dry skin is irritated skin and irritation leads to inflammation, which contributes to aging and disease. Plus, when the skin is dry it appears more aged and lines and pigmentation are accentuated,” says Manhattan Beach, CA, dermatologist Ashley Magovern, MD. The right products can make a world of difference in how your skin looks and feels and while hydrating from the outside in can’t be undervalued, hydrating from the inside out is key too.

Try incorporating more of these foods in your diet to boost your skin’s moisture from the inside out: Raw or steamed vegetables and fresh fruits retain their water content and can help stave off the effects of aging by lending a hydrating effect to the skin. Water-rich fruits — think berries and watermelon — contain a good percentage of water that the body holds on to. Also, Fatty acids, like salmon, olive oil and avocado, are beneficial to the skin’s moisture content because they minimize what’s “leaked out.” Since water can be easily flushed out, celebrity aesthetician Nerida Joy says to add lemon or cranberry to it, which helps the hydrating factor or water to “stick” better.
