DIY GREEN BEAUTY TREATMENTS
I’ve tried my fair share of beauty products throughout my life, but I often find myself coming back to the simplest forms of things. I truly believe less is more, and I embrace at-home beauty concoctions that reflect that belief.
Whether you’re looking for a quick moisturizer or a weekly mask, there are tons of do-it-yourself recipes to try. Here are a few favorites I personally use:
- Body Moisturizer: Organic coconut oil. One ingredient, endless possibilities. I like to leave a little jar of the oil in my bathroom for a quick and easy post-bath moisturizer. Just a little scoop works wonders on its own. It’s filled with hydrating nutrients that softens while it works, and who doesn’t love the scent? Additional use: warm up a teaspoon of coconut oil and massage through hair, scalp and ends to nourish and hydrate.
- Epsom Salt Bath: One of my personal favorites, this recipe is super easy – just add two cups of Epsom salt to your bath water. I also add a few drops of lavender essential oil to amplify the calming, restorative nature of the salt. Believe me, you’ll want to linger in the tub once this recipe starts doing its thing to relax your stressed muscles.
- Facial Mask: Not only are Greek yogurt and honey sweet to eat, they make for a deliciously quick and easy facemask. Look for an organic Greek yogurt that has a high fat content because the lactic acid in the yogurt, a natural alpha hydroxy acid, helps smooth and exfoliate skin. Mix equal parts yogurt and honey (I use Manuka honey or something local and raw – farmers markets always carry good selections), and then apply to clean skin and leave for about 10 minutes. Rinse off and voila! You’re fresh-faced and ready for moisturizer. I try to use this one once a week to keep up on natural exfoliation.
