Today is end of week one of the 21 day transformation cleanse and I’m feeling the full force of detox pain. When I say end of week one, it’s actually been a bit longer as I was hit with a super aggressive 24 hour stomach flu the weekend before this started – a pre-cleanse to my official cleanse. Let’s just say I’ve not been feeling my perkiest since that happened.

The big push for me to do this cleanse was to get as far away from sugar as possible and give my system a reboot to move myself towards that “glow” that comes from treating yourself to healthy food, sleep, exercise. You get it.

Well, I’m still waiting and instead I have breakouts including a little rash on my face, headaches, an achy body and even my gums are angry! Yep, the full force of all the crap that I put into my body in November and December are coming down. I have to be honest, this makes it really hard to want to keep moving in the right direction but I know that it’s going to be worth it in the end. Or, at least I hope to report that it was indeed worth it. This lingering flu yuck has just left me feeling a little depleted, which makes wanting to exercise all the harder. I’m old enough to know to listen to what my tired body is telling me and I’m taking it easier on myself than I probably would have in my 20’s or 30’s.

Having said that, I’m now moving out of the “cleansing phase” into the “transitioning phase.” I’m not one to complain about a diet that’s not terribly varied (especially when I’m busy and can make one thing that lasts a few days) but I’m officially ready to move on. The good news is I’m drinking much more water than I did before, I am down to about 1/2 cup of coffee in the morning (I’m hard pressed to give that up, but going to give it a shot and see what happens) and my veggie intake is way up.  There are nice options in this plan and I’m going to start incorporating more wild salmon, organic chicken and turkey into the plan next week.

As I was grousing the other day about having to go out do dinner with friends, feeling a bit self-conscious about my breakouts, Mandi, in her 24 year old wisdom, suggested I go watch a WonderWork video and snap out of it.  Sage advice from my young smarty-pants.  I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to get a full skin inspection from everyone, so it was nice to let it go.

Stay tuned for my update on week two!
