AVOCADO – IT REALLY IS “ALL THAT”

If you’ve been paying any attention at all to nutrition news in the last few years, you already know that avocados make the Super Foods list of many experts.

But did you know that avocado oil is also a rock star in the natural skin care world?

Here are some of the many benefits that come from using organic avocado oil:

  • calm itchy skin
  • heal chapped skin
  • replenish dry skin
  • hydrate and moisturize skin
  • shield skin from ultraviolet radiation
  • protect against skin damage
  • boosts collagen production

The vitamin E,  potassium, and lecithin which are the primary skin-feeding nutrients in the oil are all easily absorbed through the epidermis – the outermost layer of the skin – and into the dermis where they provide energy for the growth and health of new skin as well as fortification of existing cells.

Avocado oil is among the top five foods highest in vitamin E, providing defense against oxidative damage to cells caused by free-radicals.

The high level of vitamin E in avocado oil helps to maintain and further enhances softness and resilience of your skin. In case of sunburned or skin infections like eczema, the antioxidants like vitamin E, A and D presented in avocado oil help soothe the affected area.

The beta carotene, protein, lecithin, fatty acids, and vitamins A, D, and E found in avocado oil help moisturize and protect your skin from damaging UV rays and also increase collagen metabolism.  Avocado oil has a high proportion of monounsaturated fatty acids, which work as a shield protecting your skin from the sunburns and over-tanning.  All of these help contribute to the emollient and regenerative capabilities that most skin types love, especially dry and aged ones.

Collagen is paramount in ensuring that your skin stays firm, smooth and rejuvenated. It is a natural protein that helps the skin retain its elasticity and fresh complexion over time. When used topically on the skin, avocado oil naturally triggers the production of collagen. In addition, it shields the skin against age-related wrinkles, fine lines and other aging signs. Antioxidants found in Avocado oil slow down the aging process by accelerating collagen production.  As we age, the body does not produce collagen anymore due to alternation of hormones. And this is where avocado oil comes to help.

Avocado oil is uniquely rich in chlorophyll, which helps to give skin a brighter appearance.

The majority of essential fatty acids found in avocado oil are monounsaturated oleic acid (the same omega-9 EFA as olive oil).  Oleic acid is known to have several positive effects throughout the body including speeding cell regeneration and wound healing,  as well as reducing inflammation inside and out.  Oleic acid acts as a shield protecting your skin from the sunburns and over-tanning.

Avocado oil is used as a carrier oil in Kari Gran cleansing oil and essential serum which leads us to….

What’s the difference between essential oils and carrier oils?

Essential oils are highly concentrated lubricants distilled from the aromatic parts of a plant such as the root or leaves. Carrier oils are pressed from the seeds, nuts, or other fatty parts of the fruit, and are used to help dilute essential oils.  Essential oils evaporate and have strong scents, whereas carrier oils do not.

So you can see why we say that organic avocado oil is one of the hardest working ingredients in the skin care business.

Bonus:  Recipe for Homemade Face Mask

Cut a ripe avocado into cubes and add a small amount of Cleansing Oil (about 5 pumps).  Put in blender or food processer until smooth.   Apply the paste to your face and let it set for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove the mask, using a towel that has been soaked in hot water, wringing out the excess water.  You can wash off the avocado mask with Cleansing Oil.  Apply Hydrating Tonic and a few pumps Essential Serum.
