3 MISSED OPPORTUNITIES FOR KINDNESS
More often than not, small opportunities for kindness go unnoticed. But, even these little acts of kindness can add up to a lot of positive energy. Attitudes are contagious – so make sure yours is worth catching! Here are three missed opportunities for kindness that are often missed.
- Something to remember the next time you go to a restaurant – be kind to your server. Ask them how their day is going, remain calm when your order is incorrect or takes a little longer than normal to get to the table. A little kindness goes a long way. Dessert doesn’t have to be the only thing sweet at the table!
- There is nothing more frustrating than bad drivers and traffic. Since taking on this initiative of being kind, I really try to be nicer on the road. Giving people a little extra room to merge, keeping a respectable distance from whoever is in front of me, not shouting profanities at other drivers – little things. Since making this little change, I have almost started to enjoy my commute. Well not exactly, but at least I don’t let it stress me out as much as it used to, which is enough of a pay off for me.
- Possibly the easiest act of kindness and often the most appreciated is simply smiling back and acknowledging those who make eye contact with you. Whether walking to the office or shopping at the grocery store, I often find myself so focused on the task at hand that I forget to acknowledge people smiling at me. Isn’t that terrible? It’s so easy to do, but you have to remind yourself to do it. Soon it will be second nature. Sure, some people may be a little awkward about it, but remember, “Better to be the one who smiled than the one who didn’t smile back.”
Let’s bring a little more positive energy to the world, generate kindness, and brighten it with a smile that nobody will be able to resist.
